Sports and Divertissements
(Satie) (1914/2008)

An arrangement for chamber ensemble of the piano suite by Erik Satie, with the text in an original adaptation and translation.

The speakers recite the scenario text from Satie’s original score, with the timing of each phrase indicated in the arrangement. Alternatively, the text can appear as physical or projected placards, as in a silent film.

In “Le Flirt”, one or more players double on kazoo. In “Hunting” and “Tango (perpetuo)”, speakers/actors or musicians briefly sing (a trained voice isn’t necessary). In “Puss in the Corner” the text is recited/presented rhythmically in tempo.
